Volunteer Opportunities

    Are you looking to volunteer in your community and share your Human Resources and professional knolwedge? 

    We have a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. We value our community partnerships and encourage you to join us in these events! If you are intersted in volunteering, please email the contact associated with each event using the contact information listed.

    Volunteer Opportunities:

    UHCL SHRM Excel Mentoring Program!

    We are excited to announce that we are partnering with our UHCL Student SHRM Group in a mentorship program. The program will be open to our members starting in August 2017 for the fall semester at UHCL. 

    Here are some quick details about mentoring:

    • Mentors will be matched with a student based on their professional experience, personality, and intersts.
    • Each mentor with serve through the entire semester (either Spring, Summer, or Fall).
    • Mentors can also extend their mentoring for two semesters or the entire year. either with the same mentee or a different mentee.
    • Virtual mentorship is available if you aren't in the Clear Lake area!
    • The time committment is at least 2 activities a month.
    • Mentors can get SHRM and HRCI CEU's for mentoring!

    Student Group Workshops - Presenters Needed!

    We are looking for volunteers to present an one hour presentation or workshop in partnership with the UHCL Student SHRM Group. This is a great opportunity to really make an impact for an HR student and help the student chapter grow. You can also earn CEU's for being a presenter. Both HRCI and SHRM award CEU's for presentations and prep time (1.5 hours for SHRM, per-hour credit for HRCI for an hour long presentation).

    Presentation times are 11:45 am - 12:45 am OR 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm on the first Thursday of the month starting in September 2017.

    Topics requested include:

    • Discovering your skills / marketing yourself
    • Resume building workshop 
    • Building a LinkedIn profile
    • Conducting a job search
    • How to Research companies / your ideal work environment
    • Interview Etiquette / Dress for success
    • Human Resources Professionals Panel 
    • Other topic ideas welcome!
