    Biography

Dennis Clifford practices employment law in our Houston office. He is Board Certified in Labor
and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and Texas Super Lawyers
Magazine has named him a “Rising Star” among employment litigators. He is also a faculty
member with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”), and he taught trial advocacy at
the University of Houston Law Center from 2005 to 2010.

Dennis frequently partners with clients on employment-law matters in the Houston energy sector.
He has experience in a variety of fields, including oil/gas exploration, drilling operations, oil-field
services, and downstream operations. He often represents these and other clients in class and
collective actions involving claims for overtime pay. He has successfully defeated class
certification in several cases, and his representative cases are frequently cited by practitioners.
Dennis also regularly provides compliance advice on wage/hour issues, including day-rate
plans, travel pay, training pay, per diem pay, exempt status, and "off-the-clock" work.
In addition to his wage/hour practice, Dennis regularly defends employers against discrimination
and retaliation claims arising under state and federal law, such as Title VII, the FMLA, the Texas
Labor Code, and the ADA. He has defeated numerous employment claims in state and federal
courts across the country. He also regularly counsels clients on hiring practices, workplace
investigations, corrective actions, leave-of-absence issues, and employment agreements,
    including non-compete and non-solicitation matters
    .
